Our Story

UGIEL:  From Fundamental Research

to the Chromatic Revolution.

“In our CNRS laboratory, we manufactured nanometric objects using gold and silver which were simply destroyed after use, although these materials could be recycled.
This situation inspired us to revalorize these precious metals and use them in ingenious ways, by controlling their properties at the nanometric scale, to color materials.
This is how the UGIEL project was created:  approaching coloring with rigor and scientific understanding while preserving resources as much as possible.”

Jérôme, Founder of UGIEL

2015

Start of the UGIEL project, focusing on the design and making of scientific jewelry combining natural materials (wood, cork, cinnamon, etc.) with resin colored by nanoparticles of recycled precious metals.

2017

Integration of the UGIEL project within the Aquitaine Regional Incubator then Aquitaine Science Transfert. Development of an innovative technology making it possible to change the color of material in powder form by depositing an assembly of gold and/or silver nanoparticles of controlled size, shape, and organization.

2019

Filing UGIEL’s first patent related to coloring nanotechnologies using recycled precious metals.

2022

The establishment of UGIEL SAS. Introduction of our exclusive tailor-made coloring service, built on three key principles:  advanced chromatic exploration, the revaluation of materials and close collaboration with our clients and partners.

2023

Validation of UGIEL’s innovative approach via the award of several national prizes related to disruptive innovations, in particular the Innovation Competition : i-Lab.

2024

Moving in our new premises designed to accommodate all of our activities, in particular for production in order to launch the recurring supply of our products.

Green Chemistry
From the start, we have been committed to respecting the environment and individuals. By anticipating regulations concerning harmful compounds, our inorganic solutions address the major challenges for colors and optics applications. We substitute harmful chemicals such as cadmium, cobalt, and lead.

Reuse of Existing Materials
To preserve resources and color your materials, we produce nanomaterials from waste of gold and silver.
